what is GMO?

You may have seen this acronym on food packaging, embedded in a blog post, or just heard someone use the term. Some of you may know what it stands for - Genetically Modified Organism - or some of you may just know that it could not be so good for us. Well, we really don't know what the effects of this new way of growing has and will have on the body. However, IF there is a better option, non-GMO, why not take it and not take the risk?

Back many years ago, people started smoking cigarettes, not knowing any of the future effects it was going to have on their body. Today, it is a law that every cigarette pack must have these words: SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Smoking Causes Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, Emphysema, and May Complicate Pregnancy.  Not may but will cause lung cancer, heart disease, and emphysema. That's pretty bold and not sure I've ever met any person who said they wouldn't mind having any of the three.

What is a GMO? A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism to which biotechnology has been applied. This creates combinations of plant, animal, bacteria and virus genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional crossbreeding methods.  It doesn't' seem too dangerous, right?? Well, we didn't think smoking was either…

In short, we have better and many other options. We are the consumers. We make the standards with our purchases in what we support. We run the economy. Let's work together for the good of our health, quality of life, and future generations.

** Fun Fact: All of the ingredients we use are non-GMO.
